Switzerland
Switzerland is a historic destination for international expats thanks to its political stability, robust banking system and competitive taxation. Zero capital gains tax for individuals and the lump-sum tax regime for foreign rentiers make it attractive for high net worth individuals. Zurich, Geneva and Zug each offer distinct profiles — finance, international organisations, crypto.

City center rent
Outside city center rent
Switzerland is one of the most expensive countries in Europe. A single person needs to budget around €2,800/month excluding rent. Rents are very high, especially in Zurich and Geneva. However, Swiss salaries are among the highest in the world, and the absence of capital gains tax partially offsets the cost.
Settling in Suisse
Practical indicators to prepare your relocation
Safety & stability
Procedures
Start a business
Settling in Switzerland requires a B (residence) or C (settlement) permit, with different rules for EU and non-EU citizens. Geneva, Zurich and Zug each offer specific advantages. The administrative process is rigorous but efficient. Entry costs are high (housing, mandatory insurance) and the housing market is very tight in major cities.
The Swiss health system is of very high quality but entirely private: health insurance (LAMal) is mandatory and costs €300-500/month depending on canton and deductible. Care is excellent with short wait times. Medication and consultations remain expensive even with insurance, due to the deductible and copayment.
Quality of life
Switzerland offers an exceptional quality of life: safety, cleanliness, efficient public transport and stunning Alpine landscapes. The healthcare system is excellent but expensive. Three of the world's most liveable cities (Zurich, Geneva, Bern) are Swiss.
